- ABSTRACT This paper is aimed at examining femininity in the Lacanian reading of Hamlet. This examination is structured around his formulation of the notion of the phallus in his early teaching, in its articulation with the Oedipus complex and castration. At the same time, it makes it possible to partially anticipate the later formulations about sexuation and the aspect of femininity enjoyment (jouissance) which does not fit the phallic mould, although this concept is not yet formulated in Lacan’s early teaching.
