El trabajo parte de la tendencia primaria a la desazón que Freud postula no solo para la histeria sino para el status nervosus en general que llevado a su desarrollo extremo culmina en la melancolía, lo cual induce a interrogar las diferencias que se pueden establecer entre el dolor masoquista y el dolor melancólico.
