- ABSTRACT The Authoritarian Personality by Adorno et al. (1950) can be considered as one of the cornerstones of political psychology. Recent research (Altemeyer, 1996) shows a renewed interest in the concept of authoritarianism. Among those investigating the issue, one aspect that has generated major controversy has been whether authoritarianism is only to assess in the right ideological extreme (Stone, 1980; Stone & Smith, 1993) or may also be detected among the supporters of left-wing ideologies (Eysenck, 1954, 1981; Ray, 1983). Traditional approaches have sought to develop measurement instruments that identify matches between the left and right authoritarianism (Eysenck, 1954; Rokeach, 1960; Tetlock, 1983; Sidanius, 1984). However, these attempts were not entirely satisfactory. In 1996, Altemeyer LWA constructed in order to evaluate the left-wing authoritarianism. After investigating more than 2,500 cases, could not identify a single case of left wing authoritarian. Because of this, he called LWA the Loch Ness monster of political psychology´. Recent studies (Van Hiel, Duriez & Kossowska, 2006) demonstrate that the LWA is valid for certain groups, which are ideologically autofit on the far left.
1983). Enfoques tradicionales han tratado de desarrollar instrumentos de medición que permitieran identificar coincidencias entre el autoritarismo de derechas e izquierdas (Eysenck, 1954;
Rokeach, 1960; Tetlock, 1983; Sidanius, 1984).
extrema izquierda.
