| Nota de resumen, etc. | Investigaciones actuales han indagado la relación entre hipertensión<br/>arterial (HTA) y variables psicológicas. La HTA es uno<br/>de los principales factores de riesgo para los trastornos cardiovasculares.<br/>El presente trabajo tiene como objeto determinar<br/>el perfil psicológico característico del paciente hipertenso, que<br/>permita desarrollar programas de rehabilitación más eficaces.<br/>Se evaluaron las siguientes variables en una muestra de 22<br/>pacientes hipertensos: Patrón Tipo A, ansiedad y enojo. Las<br/>mismas fueron comparadas con los valores poblacionales. Los<br/>sujetos hipertensos presentaron valores significativamente<br/>mayores que las medias poblacionales en las variables H<br/>(comportamiento duro y competitivo) y J (implicación laboral)<br/>del JAS, y expresión inadecuada del enojo. Por otro lado, se<br/>hallaron valores significativamente menores que los normativos<br/>en la variable ansiedad. Estos resultados sugieren que el perfil<br/>de los hipertensos se caracterizaría por centrarse en demostrar<br/>y conseguir lo socialmente esperado (altos valores de H). Los<br/>niveles de hostilidad-enojo se incrementarían como respuesta<br/>defensiva ante lo que amenace dicho objetivo. |

| Nota de resumen, etc. | Current research has examined the relationship between<br/>arterial hypertension (AHT) and psychological variables. AHT<br/>is one of the main risk factors for cardiovascular diseases. The<br/>aim of the present study is to determine the characteristic<br/>psychological profile of the hypertensive patient that will enable<br/>the development of more effective rehabilitation programs. The<br/>following variables were evaluated in 22 hypertensive patients:<br/>Type A Personality, anxiety and anger. Measures were compared<br/>with the population mean. Hypertensive patients showed<br/>significantly higher values than the population norms on the H<br/>(hard and competitive behaviour) and J (job implication) scales<br/>of the JAS, and inadequate expression of anger. Values<br/>significantly lower than the population norms were found on the<br/>anxiety scale. These results suggest that the profile of the<br/>hypertensive patient would be characterized by a focus on<br/>demonstrating and acquiring what is socially expected (high<br/>values of H). The increment in the level of anger-hostility would<br/>act as a defensive mechanism towards what threatens the<br/>attainment of that objective. |
